Art Start is a new ministry offered at the First United Methodist Church of Fredonia. The program has a threefold purpose: creativity, therapy and mission. An open invitation is extended to anyone interested in exploring the visual and textural arts. no prior experience is necessary. All materials will be provided, and there is no financial cost to participate. Donations are accetped.
Sharon Trask first learned textile arts at home, including sewing, embroidery, crochet and quilting. She earned a B.A. in art degree from SUNY Fredonia, including drawing, painting and clay sculpture in 1997. She is also a retired registerd nurse. She sees the world filled with God's art and has cultivated a spirit of thankfulness that she attempts to express in her art.
Ronnie Lafferty is a retired school nurse. She has been painting for 15 years. She has been teaching small group watercolor classes to adults and children for several years in her home and through JCC. She is a member of Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society and Chautauqua County North Shores Arts Alliance. She paints "for pure joy" and considers both the ability and the passion as gifts from God that she loves to share.
Kathy Rich is a retired teacher, having taught for 42 years. Kathy has a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Buffalo State College and a Master of Science from Fredonia State. She did post graduate work at the University of Buffalo. Kathy has been “creating” handcrafts since she was a child. She enjoys sewing, card making, flower arranging and scrapbooking. She has been taking the acrylic painting class at Art Start for 2 years. She is currently teaching the Card Making Class there. She feels very blessed to be able to share her love of crafts through this program.
Marianne Keller is a retired elementary teacher. She obtained her One Stroke Painting Certification in 2002, and has continued to expand her acrylic painting by learning from many inspirational artists. She has enjoyed knitting and crocheting since childhood and continues ongoing support to various charitable organizations with handmade items. A natural teacher, she feels called and privileged to share the gifts and skills received from God.
